Smart Doormat — know what happens at your doorstep, remotely

End-to-end development of a connected doormat: custom ESP32 hardware, UI/UX and a companion mobile app. It detects motion, weight and distance, tells a person from a pet, plays custom alert tones and logs every visit for you to review later.

Inside the project

From doorstep to app, in three layers

The solution concept, the hardware engineering underneath it, and the mobile experience on top — as designed and built by Justenable.

Solution overview

Smart Doormat solution overview — motion detection up to 5 m, 360° scanning, person vs animal detection by weight
The doormat watches the doorstep: movement detection up to 5 m, 360° scanning, and person-vs-pet recognition by weight (~70 kg person, ~25 kg animal) — with custom music on approach.

Hardware engineering

Smart Doormat hardware — ESP32-C6, 4-layer PCB, ADC DAC and touch sensor, motion and weight sensors
ESP32-C6 based board on a 4-layer PCB with ADC, DAC and touch sensing — engineered in-house from component selection through fabrication to final production.
03

Mobile experience

Smart Doormat companion app — visit history with visual path diagram, family members, alert tones, live notifications
The companion app keeps a visit history with visual path diagrams, supports multiple family members, custom alert tones, and live movement notifications.

Scope of work

What the doormat can do

  • 01 Hardware Development
  • 02 UI/UX Design & Research
  • 03 Mobile App Development

Motion detection

Spots movement up to 5 m from the door and tracks its direction toward the mat.

Weight sensing

Tells a ~70 kg person from a ~25 kg pet, so alerts say who is actually at the door.

360° scanning

Full-circle scanning of the doorstep area — nothing approaches unnoticed.

Custom alert tones

Plays music or a chosen tone as someone comes closer — pick per event in the app.

Visit history

Every detection is logged with a visual path diagram you can replay later.

Remote access

Wi-Fi + BLE connected with live notifications, shared with multiple family members.
